How to save recipes from TikTok that actually get cooked

July 10, 2026 · The Trivet Team

Everyone has a folder of TikTok recipes they will never cook, because a favorited video is not a recipe. You cannot search it by ingredient, scale it to your table, or shop from it. Turning a sixty-second video into something cookable takes one minute when you know where creators actually put the recipe.

First, find where the recipe lives

TikTok recipes hide in three places, roughly in this order:

  1. The caption. Short recipes often fit right there, hashtags and all.
  2. The comments. “Recipe in the comments” is a whole genre; look for the creator’s pinned comment.
  3. A linked site. Bigger food creators keep full recipes on their blog, linked from their profile.

Check those in order and you will find the actual ingredients ninety percent of the time. If the recipe only exists as narration in the video, it was entertainment, not a recipe, and it deserves a skip.

That is the jackpot: real recipe pages carry structured data. Open the link from the creator’s profile, share the page to Trivet, and it lands as clean ingredients and steps. You can test any such link in the free import helper right now and watch the extraction happen.

If the recipe is in the caption or a comment

Copy the text: long-press the caption (or open the video’s link and copy from there), or copy the pinned comment. In Trivet, choose Paste Text and the parser sorts what you pasted into ingredients and steps for you to confirm. Captions are messy, so expect to delete a hashtag or two; the parser keeps the raw text as the source of truth, and you fix anything in one pass.

If it is on screen only

Pause at the ingredient list, screenshot it, and use Trivet’s photo import. The text is read on your device (nothing is uploaded) and becomes a draft recipe. Scanning is part of Premium.

Make it cookable, not just saved

Once the recipe is in your collection, the useful parts become automatic: scale the servings and the amounts recalculate (try the math with the recipe scaler), drop it onto the week, and the grocery list builds itself sorted by aisle. That is the difference between a folder of favorited videos and a plan for Thursday.

A note on giving credit

Keep the source. Trivet stores the link with the recipe, so the creator who fed you is one tap away, and when friends ask for the recipe you can send them the original video instead of a screenshot of a screenshot.

Keep your recipes in one private place.
