Trivet is made by a small team at Handler Labs. Email [email protected] and a person will read it. We answer within two business days, usually sooner.

It helps to include your iPhone or iPad model, your iOS or iPadOS version, and the link to the recipe if you are reporting an import problem. There is no account to look up, so anything you can tell us about what happened is what we have to go on.

A recipe will not import

Most sites work. Some block automated readers, and a few publish their recipe in a format nothing can read. If a link fails, try importing from a screenshot instead: take a photo or screenshot of the recipe and use Add, then Photo. You can also paste the text straight in, or type the recipe by hand. If a site fails that you think should work, send us the link. We fix those individually.

A social post or Discover page will not import

Trivet reads the caption or description under a TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, or Pinterest post, so a recipe that is only spoken or shown in the video is not in it. Paste the caption with Add, then Paste text, or save the video and use video import. In Discover, the Save button appears only when a page carries recipe markup; on any other page, copy its link into Add.

I paid and Trivet still shows the free tier

Open Settings and tap Restore Purchases. Purchases are tied to the Apple account that made them, so check that the device is signed in to the same one. If a purchase still does not appear, email us with the date and we will sort it out.

Managing or cancelling a subscription

Subscriptions are billed by Apple, so they are managed in iOS Settings: tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends to avoid the next charge. Refunds are handled by Apple throughreportaproblem.apple.com. A lifetime purchase never renews and never expires. It is a separate purchase and does not cancel an active subscription, so cancel the subscription here first so it does not renew.

Backing up and moving to a new device

The easiest way to move to a new iPhone or iPad is iCloud sync. Sign in to iCloud on the new device, install Trivet, and your library appears. For a file you keep yourself, Settings has Export Library, which is free, and Back Up Library, the one-tap backup that comes with Premium. Restore from Backup reads a backup back, and restoring is always free even if the backup was made with Premium. Restore merges rather than replaces, so nothing already on the new device is lost.

My library looks empty

If a card in Recipes says iCloud is off for Trivet, this device is signed out of iCloud, or iCloud is switched off for Trivet. Your recipes are safe in your iCloud. Turn iCloud back on for Trivet in iOS Settings and they return. Anything you added in the meantime stays on the device and syncs later. To stop syncing on a device on purpose, use Settings > iCloud > Stop Syncing on This Device. The device keeps its library.

Deleting your recipes

Swipe any recipe to delete it. To remove everything at once, use Delete All Data in Settings. It removes the library from the device and, while iCloud sync is running, from your iCloud and every device that syncs with it. If sync is not running, the iCloud copy is not deleted and may come back. Deleting the app on its own removes the local data but leaves an iCloud copy. Trivet holds no copy on any server of ours, so there is nothing for us to delete.

What Trivet sends over the network

Only a few things leave your device, and none of them involves an account or analytics.

  • Importing a web link sends that link to our import service, which fetches the page and sends back the ingredients and steps. It stores nothing. The same service reads a recipe page that a social caption points to.
  • Social-post links and Discover pages are fetched by your device straight from those sites, like any browser. Searches in Discover go to DuckDuckGo.
  • Recipe images are downloaded from the site the recipe came from.
  • When iCloud sync is on, your library goes to your own private iCloud, which we cannot read.
  • If you share your grocery list, Trivet reads and writes the Reminders list you choose.
  • Purchases go through the App Store.

There is no account and no sign-in, and Trivet’s release builds send no usage events. Our App Store privacy label reads Data Not Collected.

Cups, grams, and everything in between

Every recipe has a Recipe, US, and Metric switch above the ingredients, and Settings has a default for new recipes. Trivet reads the units a recipe was written in, including the ones that differ by country: an Australian tablespoon is 20 ml against 15 elsewhere, and an imperial pint is 568 ml against the American 473.
